Throwing Social Media into My Trashbox

Throwing Social Media into My Trashbox

Why

I fundamentally dislike the model where social media "push" something to me. If I subscribe to a channel, I feel an obligation to check it once in a while. This is extremely frustrating to my neurodivergent habits. So I am putting them into a Trashbox.

The solution isn't "healthy social media". The solution is "no social media at all". Or "social media" for messaging. I remember when I was 17, I only had a feature phone. At that time I would wander around the city every weekend without a map, go somewhere by bus, and how I was just calmer. I still write all my tasks on a notebook.

Unsubscribe and Trashbox

I need to unsubscribe to all my YouTube channels. I already disabled YouTube's history. I am putting my current channels into my Trashbox, a text file on Github. My Trashbox is just all of the interesting things or ideas that I can do if I am too bored. So I can check back on those channels I am interested.

If I searched for something and came across a channel I like, I would watch it for like 1-2 hours, then put it in the Trashbox.

My Channel

By the way, it doesn't mean I will delete my channel on YouTube. I can still keep my channel and update it some time if I want. I use my face and voice for most of my videos.

Offline and Direct Socializing

Social media is an illusion of socializing. Social media cannot replace offline socializing and walking.

I do not like using dating apps or play such games online. If I need to meet someone, I would send them a message directly. I remember when I was younger, I would just call them. Nowadays people don't call each other anymore, so I use no-bullshit, direct social apps such as WhatsApp or Telegram.
