Visiting Bobruisk

We are going to Бобруйск. 140 km, 1 час 40 минут. 2 kids sitting opposite of me whispered, "Nihao." The young girl unexpectedly gave me some chocolate. I am so grateful for the kindness! I said, "Спасибо! Спасибо большое!" From their conversations I knew the girls are called Ульяна, Ксюша and Вика. Ulyana gave me some more chips. They said they are from Brest. I said I had been to Brest only a few days before. "Вот где мы живем", they said. I said, "Вы очень добрые люди". They were jumping up and down and climbing the poles. They had a lot of snacks, and Ksyusha gave me some chocolate bars again. Then Ulyana took a photo with me.

I got off the train.

I wanted to go to Марьина Горка for 3 hours before returning to Minsk. At 18:00 I was at the railway station. I had half an hour to wait for the train, so I crossed to the other side of the bridge. It was 18:16, and the train was leaving at 18:29, and I walked almost 1 km away. I realized that I had no time, and I ran back at 18:22. However, there were no seats on the train. The next train to Марьина Горка would be 20:14, which is too late. In the end I took a direct train to Minsk at 18:58. It was 9 when I got back to Minsk. I decided to walk around the city and the parks for a while.

I went into a Chinese restaurant called "Tang Dynasty". I asked if I could use my Unionpay card to buy some water. I couldn't. Unionpay works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. I had 5-10 Rubles in cash, and there is no money in my bank cards. I bought water for 3 Rubles. Unionpay doesn't work in KFC or Mcdonalds either. I'm hungry.

I'm in a difficult situation now! I could not withdraw money from Unionpay. I am hungry and I only had 5 Rubles left. Unionpay sometimes worked, but mostly it doesn't. 5 Rubles is not enough to travel to the airport. There's no money in my bank card. I still had 200 Yuan on me. My flight is tomorrow morning at 10:40. Banks are closed in the morning till 8:30. I need to find a hotel to exchange my 200 Yuan, and I am heading there now. 22:20. I am back at the hostel to get my 200 Yuan. I rang the doorbell for 5 minutes, and no one answered. What a shitty hostel! I called Natalia on WhatsApp, and she came over and opened the door. She said, "Не надо звонить."

22:35. I am going across the city, hoping to exchange the 100 Yuan at Renaissance Hotel. If you running out of money, you can't enjoy life or have curiosity, and your daily life would be full of depression.

23:15. I was walking toward the hotel. I never, ever worried about running out of money. The interest rate from my parents is higher than the travel expenses. I arrived and they said they couldn't exchange Yuan, only dollars and euros. I also couldn't withdraw money from Unionpay. The hotel receptionist said she couldn't help me. I have 4 Rubles left. At Hotel Ukraina in Moscow you could easily do it with a machine. This is terrible, to be honest.

I don't know it is becoming very funny right now. Guys, isn't this funny? I am laughing. I got some water and went to the toilet for free. Am I going to end up on the streets? No. Worst case is wasting the plane ticket, exchanging my 200 Yuan tomorrow, taking the bus to the airport, and booking another flight on WeChat. When Unionpay worked in supermarkets, I thought I was safe and spent all Rubles.

Вот Huawei. I don't like Huawei, it's not for nonconformists.

23:50. I am heading back to the hotel. 12:50. I am at the hotel. A man opened the door for me. I said "спасибо".

I kept acting poor during the trip, but poverty cosplaying itself is a luxury, a luxury for the aesthetics.

In short, I called a taxi with Yandex Go. So I also had a Mastercard and somehow it worked with Yandex Go. I am leaving Minsk. And when the stress is gone, the city does look clean, quiet, and beautiful from the window. I slept just over 2 hours today, from 3:50 to 6 am. I didn't eat anything last night, and yesterday I only had a pastry, the snacks they shared with me on the train, 2 bananas, 3 yogurts, and nothing else.

Ok, now my trip is ending, and I am going back to China. You can call it a waste of time, or you can call it a rebellion that turned into a defeat, or you can call it youthful naivety combined with privilege. Whatever you think. I thank my parents. I thank everyone who talked with me. I thank myself for the madness of my youth.

I'm sad. I said to the taxi driver, "Спасибо, до свидания". It cost 51 Rubles.. At 07:07, I arrived at the airport.
